Pakistan javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem said on Sunday that the hard work and dedication reaped benefits in the Paris Olympics.

Expressing his thoughts Nadeem recounted his determination for the sports, saying, "I used to participate in different sports at the school level. It was back in 2015, when I had started to compete at the national level."

"I had the honor to qualify for the Olympics directly. Despite surgery on both knees and elbows, I continued to work hard."

Giving the piece of advice to the country's youth, Nadeem said: "The youngsters should continue to work hard as the higher power gives the reward of dedication."

Few days back, Noted singer Abrarul Haq lavished on Friday his praise on Javelin star Arshad Nadeem, giving Rs1.5million to the Olympic gold medalist. 

Addressing the press conference flanked by Nadeem, the "Assan Jana Mall-o Mall" singer said: "Arshad Nadeem had brought good news for the masses, who are facing a multitude of challenges, including the economic crunch.".

"Arshad Nadeem has waved the national flag after clinching a gold medal for the country, which came after 44 years of waiting," Haq said.

"I had announced to give a small reward [Rs1.5million] to Arshad Nadeem. We have named the Sahara sports after Arshad Nadeem," said the "Dilbaron Ki Basti Mein" singer.

Arshad Nadeem, the celebrated javelin thrower who made history at the Paris Olympics by securing Pakistan’s first-ever Olympic gold medal in the event, has been awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz.

The honour was conferred by President Asif Ali Zardari during a special ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Wednesday.

Nadeem, who set a new world record with a javelin throw of 92.97 metres, brought unprecedented pride to the nation.

His achievement not only secured Pakistan’s first individual Olympic gold medal but also marked the country’s first Olympic gold in 40 years.

President Zardari, while presenting the award, praised Nadeem for his extraordinary dedication and contribution to sports, highlighting that his accomplishment has raised Pakistan’s profile on the global stage.

In his remarks, Nadeem expressed his gratitude to the nation and the government for the recognition, dedicating the award to the people of Pakistan.

President Asif Ali Zardari conferred the Hilal-e-Imtiaz on Paris Olympics 2024 gold medalist Arshad Nadeem today (Thursday) in a special ceremony at the President’s House in Islamabad.

Arshad Nadeem, from Mian Channu village, made Pakistan proud by winning the gold medal in javelin throw with a record-breaking distance of 92.97 meters. The achievement surpassed 118 records in the history of the Paris Olympics.

Upon his return, Arshad Nadeem received a hero’s welcome at Allama Iqbal International Airport. A large crowd cheered and celebrated his victory at the international sports event.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the provincial governments of Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan announced price money for Arshad Nadeem. A few private companies also announced vehicles for the athletes.  

The next Olympics will be held in Los Angeles in 2028. Until then, Arshad Nadeem’s gold medal will remain unmatched unless someone breaks his record or he successfully defends his title in the upcoming Games.

Arshad Nadeem for the first time out beat the Indian javelin thrower, Neeraj Chopra. The mother of Neeraj Chopra and Arshad Nadeem made international headlines when both open-heartedly told media persons that they praised for other's son. 

The statements by both mothers were coined as 'mother's diplomacy' between Pakistan and India as people from both countries cherished the victory of Arshad Nadeem and Neeraj Chopra and praised their professionalism on the ground and friendship off the ground.  

Gold medalist Arshad Nadeem on Tuesday lavished his praise on Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori.

Expressing his thoughts, Nadeem stated: "I would like to express my gratitude to the Sindh governor. He [Kamran Tessori] has given me immense respect". He acknowledged Tessori's efforts to pave the way for the uplift of the sports. 

"Even the football team is also present here. I would like to say my thank you to the governor for rallying behind the sports," he added.

"It will be in the favor of the country, if everybody follows in the footsteps of the Sindh governor," he said.

Nadeem said, "I always feel happy whenever I meet Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori."

National hero Arshad Nadeem visited Safari Zoo Park in Lahore and called on the public to protect wildlife and increase tree planting efforts.

Nadeem, who planted a tree on the park's premises, praised the park's cleanliness and modern renovations.

During the visit, Nadeem was presented with a check for Rs2 million by DG Wildlife Punjab Mudassar Riaz Malik.

Various companies also announced prizes in recognition of Nadeem's contributions.

In celebration of Independence Day and his gold medal achievement, Arshad Nadeem and DG Wildlife Punjab Mudassar Riaz Malik cut a cake together.

Nadeem expressed his gratitude for the invitation to the Safari Park, saying, "I was honored to be invited to the Safari Park."

National hero Arshad Nadeem, who clinched a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, reached Lahore to a warm reception. Invited by the Punjab governor, Nadeem and his family, along with his coach Salman Iqbal Butt, were welcomed with great enthusiasm.

Nadeem will be staying at the Governor House during his visit. Addressing a gathering held in his honour on Saturday morning, he expressed his gratitude for the immense respect and honour he has received from across Pakistan.

“I am deeply thankful to the governor of Punjab for inviting me to the Governor House today. Despite undergoing surgery and dealing with an injury, the support from my teacher and the nation played a crucial role in my victory,” Nadeem said, adding that his coach worked really hard on him. 

He reflected on his achievement, noting, “It was a historic moment for Pakistan. Allah granted me success in the second throw, and I am honoured to bring pride to the nation. It happened for the first time in the history of Pakistan that we broke a record. I will continue to work hard to achieve even greater heights.”

Governor Sardar Salim Haider extended a heartfelt welcome to Nadeem, highlighting the significance of his accomplishment.

“Arshad Nadeem’s victory has been a source of immense pride for the Pakistani nation. His achievement at the Paris Olympics has elevated our country’s flag to new heights. We celebrate his success and the joy it has brought to every corner of Pakistan,” said Governor Haider.

He said he offered special prayers and prayed for Arshad's success. He further acknowledged Nadeem’s outstanding performance, stating, “It is remarkable that we are the ones who achieved this victory after 118 years. I knew Arshad Nadeem will throw more than 95 meters. Nadeem’s throws, surpassing 90 meters, are a testament to his dedication and talent. I am hopeful that he will break the world record in the future. My prayers are with him for continued success and for the prosperity of our country.”

In recognition of his historic achievement, Governor Haider presented Nadeem with a cheque of Rs2 million. The entire nation celebrates this momentous victory, which has brought a sense of pride and happiness to Pakistan.

In a ceremony celebrating a historic milestone for Pakistani sports, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir honoured Olympian Arshad Nadeem at the Army Auditorium GHQ.

The event, held to commemorate Nadeem's remarkable achievement of winning Pakistan's first-ever gold medal in a singles' Olympic event, was attended by a distinguished array of sports teams and legendary athletes.

The ceremony was graced by notable figures from various sports disciplines, including the 1984 Olympic and national hockey teams, the national cricket team, street football team, army polo team, and athletes from visually impaired cricket and women’s goalball teams.

Prominent sports legends such as Jehangir Khan, Islahuddin, Shahbaz Senior, Sohail Abbas, Muhammad Asif, and Aisamul Haq were also present. Arshad Nadeem's close relatives, associates, and coaches were in attendance to celebrate his success.

General Munir praised Nadeem for his extraordinary achievement and lauded his perseverance and courage. He highlighted how Nadeem’s dedication and hard work led to breaking records and setting a new standard for Pakistani athletics on the global stage.

The COAS described Nadeem's journey from humble beginnings to Olympic greatness as an inspiring example of commitment and excellence.

In his remarks, Arshad Nadeem expressed his gratitude and underscored the potential of Pakistani youth. He stressed the importance of hard work, positivity, and perseverance in overcoming challenges and achieving success.

Olympic champion and national hero Arshad Nadeem received a warm reception in Karachi, where he was honoured by Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, and provincial officials. During a press conference with Governor Tessori, Arshad Nadeem recounted his experience during the javelin event that secured him the gold medal. "After some difficulty in the first throw, I told myself on the second throw not to be too over. And that very throw got me the gold medal," he revealed.

He also highlighted the differences between his throwing technique and that of Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra, explaining how their styles differ on the international stage. "I will meet the army chief in a few days," he disclosed. 

Arshad Nadeem announced to distribute 100 laptops to the IT students at Governor House as a gesture to support education and the youth of Pakistan. "I will prepare hard for the upcoming events and make the country even more proud," he announced.

The athlete also visited the Chief Minister House, where he was warmly welcomed by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and members of the provincial cabinet. Shah also awarded Nadeem Rs50 million in recognition of his accomplishments, and Minister Nasir Shah announced the gift of a car to Nadeem's mother as a token of the nation’s gratitude. 

Sharjeel Inam Memon also offered a registration plate to Arshad Nadeem of his own choice. Mayor Murtaza Wahab announced to establish an academy named after Arshad Nadeem in Karachi. 

Later, while visiting the Quaid's Mausoleum, Nadeem expressed his pride in bringing the nation together with his victory, calling the medal a unifying force for Pakistan. He urged the government to support athletes by relieving them of administrative duties and returning them to the playing fields.

He also advocated for the restoration of departmental teams to ensure that athletes can focus on training and achieving excellence for the country.

As he expresses determination to qualify for the 2028 Olympics, Arshad reflects on his journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of Pakistan’s most celebrated athletes.

While addressing a ceremony organised in his honour by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi at Governor House Peshawar, the Olympian recalled that between 2016 and 2020, he collected numerous medals in international competitions, notably breaking records at the South Asian Games in Guwahati.

He further said that he had dreamt of winning a medal at the previous Tokyo Olympics, for which he worked tirelessly, despite suffering from injuries along the way. The determination paid off when he secured fifth place at the Tokyo Olympics.

Following the Tokyo Olympics, Arshad went on to say, he intensified his training, and thanked the Punjab Sports Board for providing the necessary facilities. Arshad’s breakthrough came when he recorded his first throw of over 80 meters in England, he recalled. Continuing his streak of impressive performances, he said he achieved a 90-meter throw in the third strike.

Arshad said that later, he trained himself within just three days for the World Islamic Games and went on to win a medal. He also said that though time was short for preparation at the World Athletics Championships, his determination never wavered. His silver medal at the event was a major achievement, becoming the first Pakistani athlete to directly qualify for the Olympics.

Arshad Nadeem told the audience he faced setbacks, including two injuries before the Olympics, but his resolve remained unbroken. "The coach said we have to win a medal," the national hero recalled. Despite an injury on July 21 before the Paris Olympics, he trained for the best throw of his life. Having thrown thrice just a day before the Olympic qualifying round, he managed to exceed 80 meters, regaining his confidence.

Arshad said that in the finals of the Paris Olympics, he remained composed and confident, delivering strong throws and eventually securing a gold medal. "I remained focused till the last throw and was successful," Arshad remarked. 

Upon his return home, Arshad said he was greeted with overwhelming love and support from his fellow countrymen. He vowed to participate in the World Athletes Championship. "I will try hard to break my own record in the coming days," he expressed his resolve. 

He expressed his gratitude to KP Governor Faisal Karim Kandi for the warm reception and vowed to continue pushing himself in future competitions. 

Yasir Sultan, Pakistan's national javelin champion, has expressed his frustration, revealing that promises made to him by the government after his win have yet to be fulfilled.

While expressing happiness over fellow athlete Arshad Nadeem's international success, Yasir stated during a press conference in Lahore, "I am proud that Arshad Nadeem has made the country's name known worldwide. His achievements are a source of inspiration for all of us."

He said he was the current national champion, who won a bronze medal in June 2023 in the Asian Athletics Championship.  However, the national javelin thrower voiced his disappointment over unkept commitments made by the government following his own success.

"The prime minister had announced Rs5 million as a reward for winning the bronze medal in the Asian Athletics Championship, but I have not received the money yet," Yasir lamented.

He added that despite repeated attempts to follow up on the reward, there has been no response from the authorities.

Yasir also shared his regret about the lack of support and competitive opportunities, saying, "It is a pity that I have not been given any competitions to participate in." Despite his accolades and national standing, the athlete feels sidelined, with no clear pathway for further development or participation in international events.

During the press conference, Yasir revealed that he had received offers to represent other countries in javelin competitions. "I have offers to play for many countries," Yasir stated.

The national javelin thrower called on the government and sports authorities to honour their promises and provide the necessary support to help athletes like him continue to represent Pakistan on the global stage. 

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Tuesday a cash reward of Rs150 millin for Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem during a ceremony held in his honour at the Prime Minister's House.

During his address also revealed plans to name the road between F-9 and F-10 sectors in Islamabad after Nadeem and establish a high-performance sports academy to nurture young talent.

In his address, PM Sharif acknowledged Nadeem's remarkable achievement, marking the first Olympic gold for Pakistan in 40 years.

He emphasised that Nadeem's victory, which coincides with the nation's Independence Day, has doubled the nation's happiness and lifted the morale of the entire country. "Arshad Nadeem has set an example for the nation by overcoming challenges with perseverance and hard work," he said.

Premier further announced the establishment of a one billion rupees sports endowment fund, aimed at supporting athletes' training and providing for their welfare post-retirement. A special committee will also be formed to enhance sports development in the country, with a focus on reviving Pakistan's former glory in hockey, cricket, and squash.

Highlighting Nadeem's contribution to Pakistan, PM Sharif declared that the athlete would be awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, one of the country's highest civilian honors, on Independence Day, August 14.

PM Shehbaz also pledged a cash reward of Rs100 million for Nadeem's coach, recognizing the crucial role of mentorship in his success.

In a gesture of respect, PM Sharif assured that no tax deductions would be applied to the rewards given to Nadeem, stating, "The respect and honor given to our national hero are paramount."

Arshad Nadeem, while addressing the ceremony, expressed his gratitude to the nation and reiterated his commitment to further excel in upcoming events, particularly the Paris Olympics. "I will celebrate Independence Day with this gold medal, and I am determined to continue giving my best for Pakistan," he said.

Mr Shehbaz also acknowledged the efforts of other athletes, including female shooter Kushmala Talat, who represented Pakistan in the Paris Olympics, and urged sports officials and former Olympians to provide their insights and recommendations for revitalizing the country's sports sector. 

The ceremony concluded with the announcement of the Arshad Nadeem High-Performance Academy, which will be established at Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad, symbolizing the beginning of a new era for sports in Pakistan.

Nadeem expressed special thanks to his coach, Salman Butt, who took care of him like his own child, particularly after the Tokyo Olympics. Their rigorous training paid off as he broke records in the Commonwealth Games and World Islamic Games, including a 90-plus meter throw.

Despite facing injuries, the Olympic gold medalist’s determination never wavered. He shared that during the Olympic qualifying round on August 6, he secured his spot in the final with his first throw, confident of competing for the gold.

Upon his return to Pakistan, Arshad Nadeem was overwhelmed by the warm reception at Lahore Airport and the respect shown by the entire nation. He particularly appreciated the recognition from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, who honored him in his village.

Ali Amin Gandapur, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), praised China's impressive advancements, hailing it as a global role model.

In his speech, he emphasised that China has become a key economic center on the global stage due to their hard work and talent.

The KP CM referred to a report from the Chinese Embassy suggesting the potential for allotting government land in KP for a new setup, enhancing relations between the province and China. He stressed the significance of patriotism in fostering passion and dedication within individuals.

Gandapur also praised Pakistani athlete Arshad Nadeem, recognizing him as a role model for young people. He commended Nadeem's persistence and excitement, resulting in him winning a prestigious medal on the global platform.

He urged the public to increase tree planting, emphasizing the environmental advantages and the importance of community participation in these efforts.

The KP CM voiced his displeasure with the governor’s performance, accusing him of not taking an engaged role. He commented that the governor appears disinterested in carrying out his duties, even hinting that his selection was an error.

CM Gandapur highlighted the significance of the mining sector in KP, stating that it could serve as the province's main economic driver. He emphasized the importance of passing the Mineral Bill to fully exploit the sector's capabilities.

He criticised government officials, singling out Mariam Kotak, and blamed certain leaders for prioritizing social media over governing. He expressed sorrow over the purported theft of the mandate in Punjab, noting that those in authority are now prioritizing creating TikTok videos over serving the community.

In a show of individual backing, he disclosed intentions to gather contributions from friends in order to reward Arshad Nadeem for his accomplishments. He made it clear that he is unable to offer any money from government funds, but suggested that others give from their personal funds to celebrate the athlete’s achievement.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Atta Tarar announced the launch of a new visa policy on the occasion of Independence Day.

The policy, which takes effect from today at noon, abolishes visa fees for citizens of 126 countries and simplifies the visa application process.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Minister Tarar highlighted the government's efforts to facilitate international travel to Pakistan, emphasizing the country's rich natural beauty and cultural heritage. "Our country is blessed with every natural blessing," he remarked, underscoring the desire to attract tourists from around the globe.

Under the new policy, visitors from the designated 126 countries will be able to apply for a 90-day visa by filling out a simplified form containing only 30 questions. The visa will be issued immediately upon completion of the form, significantly reducing the bureaucracy and delays that have previously hindered tourist arrivals.

Moreover, special provisions have been made for residents of Gulf countries, who will be granted visas upon arrival simply by presenting their passports.

"The doors of Pakistan are being opened to the world," the minister declared, noting that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance Pakistan's international image and attract more foreign visitors.

Minister Tarar also reassured potential tourists that their safety and security are top priorities for the government. He mentioned that security agencies will be kept informed of tourist arrivals and that the Ministry of Interior is coordinating with provincial governments to ensure robust security arrangements.

Additionally, the minister noted the significant growth in the tourism sector in Gilgit-Baltistan, where efforts are being made to promote quality and affordable accommodation for visitors. This move is expected to further boost the region's appeal as a top destination for both domestic and international tourists.

In a related announcement, Minister Tarar revealed that the federal cabinet will formally welcome Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan's gold medalist at the Paris Olympics, at Noor Khan Air Base. He lauded Nadeem's historic victory, calling it a momentous achievement for the nation.

Comparing Nadeem's triumph to Pakistan's 1992 Cricket World Cup victory, Tarar stated, "The honor brought by Arshad Nadeem is greater than that of the 1992 World Cup." He added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had personally met Nadeem before his departure to Paris and would extend a grand welcome upon his return.

The minister also highlighted the government's commitment to supporting athletes, both before and after their success. He noted that Arshad Nadeem himself acknowledged the support provided by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, describing himself as "a plant planted by the Prime Minister."

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to host a grand reception today in honour of Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem, who recently made history by bringing home a gold medal for Pakistan.

According to sources, the prime minister has also extended invitations to several former Olympians, members of the federal cabinet, senior parliamentarians, and Arshad Nadeem's family to attend the event. 

"The Olympics record holder should be welcomed with dignity," the PM is said to have instructed.

The sources said that Arshad Nadeem, who broke a longstanding Olympic record, and his family will be received with full protocol as he arrives in Islamabad via the prime minister’s plane. The event will take place at the Prime Minister's House, where Shehbaz Sharif has instructed that the national hero be welcomed with the utmost respect and dignity. 

In his remarks at a federal cabinet meeting ahead of the dinner, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the significance of Nadeem’s achievement, noting that after 40 years, a national hero has once again brought a gold medal to Pakistan.

"The entire nation is celebrating and expressing gratitude to Allah for this remarkable achievement," the prime minister said.

Shehbaz Sharif also acknowledged Arshad Nadeem’s perseverance, highlighting that despite the challenges faced in recent competitions, Nadeem did not lose heart or succumb to disappointment. Tributes were paid to the national hero in the federal cabinet meeting. 

To further honour Arshad Nadeem’s accomplishment, the prime minister announced that a formal letter has been sent to the president, recommending a national award for the athlete. "Honouring our national hero is not just a duty of the government but of the entire nation," Shehbaz stated.

This evening’s event will be a moment of celebration and pride for the country, as Arshad Nadeem, alongside his family, will be feted by the nation’s leadership for his outstanding contribution to Pakistani sports.

Salman Iqbal Butt, the coach who played a pivotal role in Arshad Nadeem's journey to Olympic gold, shared insights into their successful strategy and the challenges they faced.

Butt, a key figure in shaping Nadeem’s Olympic success, recounted with Samaa TV the moment Arshad Nadeem threw his javelin over 90 metres during the recently concluded Paris Olympics 2024. He described his initial astonishment followed by a confident smile, realizing that no one could beat Nadeem’s performance.

"I am immensely grateful to the media for their support and encouragement throughout this journey," Butt stated. He highlighted the rigorous training regimen they followed, emphasizing that despite facing significant injuries, the team remained dedicated and did not take holidays. 

"Our strategy was straightforward: hard work was the key. Managing injuries was one of the biggest challenges, but we persevered," he added. He further said they will now rest for a month, after which they will resume working again. 

Reflecting on the competition, Butt revealed that when Nadeem made his second throw, it was evident it would surpass 80 metres. "As a coach, you have to maintain a calm demeanour. I didn’t show any signs of pressure to Arshad, and I was focused on the throw. I could not see the second throw as a camera was in front of me. When I saw it had reached 92.97 meters, I couldn’t help but smile," Butt said.

Butt acknowledged that Nadeem’s throw outperformed even Neeraj Chopra’s best efforts, underscoring Nadeem’s exceptional performance. "Based on my experience, achieving such a target was incredibly challenging. Arshad's technique and preparation were outstanding," he noted. He revealed that he had talked to Arshad about run-up and his arms. 

Looking ahead, Butt expressed optimism about the future of Javelin in Pakistan, stating, "With the growing interest in javelin, we expect improvements in performance and increased attraction to the sport."

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz made a special visit to Mian Channu to meet and honour Arshad Nadeem, who recently won a gold medal at the Olympics and set a new record after 118 years.

The chief minister expressed her admiration for Nadeem's dedication and hard work, attributing his success to the support and prayers of his parents.

Arshad's father Muhammad Ashraf said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz gifted his son a cheque for Rs100 million as well as a car. She also made several commitments to support the local community, including paving the roads in the village, constructing a hospital, and establishing a university in Mian Channu.

Moreover, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also presented a cheque of Rs5 million to coach Salman Iqbal Butt. 

Punjab Information Minister Aza Bukhari later tweeted that the chief minister had gifted Arshad Nadeem a car as well as a cash prize, adding that the registration number of the car was the same as the record Arshad created in the Olympics: PAK 92.97.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has unveiled a series of ambitious initiatives aimed at empowering the youth of Pakistan.

Speaking at a ceremony on Monday, the prime minister announced that one million students across the country would receive smartphones on merit, as part of the government's broader strategy to integrate technology into education and provide equal opportunities to all.

As Arshad Nadeem's flight entered Pakistani airspace, air traffic control welcomed him with a special message, celebrating his success.

Upon arrival at the airport, he was warmly greeted by Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Chairman of the Prime Minister Youth Program Rana Mashhood, former Federal Minister Khawaja Saad Raffique, and Shiza Fatima, who adorned him with garlands of flowers as a mark of respect and admiration.

Speaking to the media at the airport, Arshad Nadeem reflected on his journey, emphasizing that his victory was the result of relentless hard work and dedication from both him and his coach. “This success represents a long journey of perseverance,” he said, expressing gratitude to the Pakistan Sports Board and his coach for their unwavering support.

Nadeem also acknowledged the role of the Prime Minister's Youth Program in his development, referring to himself as a “product” of the initiative launched by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The wait is over! Arshad Nadeem, who clinched the gold medal at the Paris Olympics, arrived in Lahore in the wee hours of Saturday. The plane carrying Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan's first Olympic gold medalist in 40 years, has landed at Lahore Airport.

Lahore Airport was abuzz with excitement as Pakistan's Olympic gold medalist, Arshad Nadeem, returned home to a hero's welcome. Hundreds of fans, including over a hundred members of his family, gathered to catch a glimpse of the nation's pride.

Flight TK 714, carrying Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem, touched down at Lahore's Allama Iqbal Airport at 1:27 PM. As a mark of respect and celebration, the plane was honored with a water cannon salute, a traditional gesture reserved for special occasions.

Preparations

The Punjab Police Band extended a warm welcome to the national hero at Lahore Airport.

In a historic move, Lahore Police arranged an exceptional VVIP protocol for Arshad Nadeem. More than 150 police officers and personnel will ensure his security, with a traffic police pilot leading the way in front of his convoy. The convoy will be closely followed by elite force vehicles, reflecting the significance of his achievement.

According to police officials, a DSP-rank officer and a traffic pilot will accompany Arshad Nadeem throughout his journey until he reaches his final destination. Divisional SPs, along with SDPOs and SHOs, will be on hand to receive him in their respective areas.

In Arshad Nadeem's hometown of Mian Channu Chak 101, an announcement was made urging locals to prepare to welcome him at the airport. Official buses have been arranged to transport residents from his village to Lahore Airport to greet their hero.

The Lahore Traffic Police, in coordination with Ring Road Police, have finalized traffic management plans on the routes surrounding Lahore Airport. Under the supervision of SP Munir Hashmi, six inspectors and 42 wardens will be deployed to ensure smooth traffic flow on Service Road, Ring Road, Askari 10, and Airport Road, anticipating the large crowds expected to gather.

Wajahat Hussain

Large boards adorned with his pictures have been put up across the airport, with a special board from the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) prominently displayed at the reception camp to honor the nation’s pride.

AFP President Wajahat Hussain has already arrived at the airport to personally greet Arshad Nadeem. Speaking to Sama, Hussain expressed his anticipation and eagerness to welcome the champion, stating, "I have spent the day with great difficulty, eager to see our hero return home."

In his conversation, Wajahat Hussain also highlighted the Federation's commitment to supporting Arshad Nadeem in his future competitions. He assured that more facilities and resources would be provided to the athlete to ensure his continued success on the global stage.

"Arshad Nadeem is the first spark," Hussain remarked, "Now it’s time for all our athletes to shine."

Former cricketer Mushtaq Ahmed has among others have also reached the airport

Arshad Nadeem's former coach, Fayyaz Bukhari, and fellow javelin thrower Yasir Sultan, are also present at the airport to welcome him back home.

Security

To ensure a smooth and secure welcome, Punjab Police officials have been deployed to handle the security situation at the airport. A team of female police officers is also present at the airport, adding a touch of warmth and hospitality to the security arrangements.

A separate arrival state guest lounge will be opened exclusively for Arshad Nadeem's arrival, allowing him to receive a dignified and comfortable welcome. But what's catching everyone's attention is the deployment of commandos for Arshad Nadeem's security.

Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan's star javelin thrower, has been a dedicated employee of the WAPDA Sports Board since 2016.

His recruitment was approved by then-Chairman WAPDA, General (retd) Muzammil, who facilitated Nadeem's induction into Grade 11, according to sources within WAPDA.

Nadeem's outstanding performances on the global stage, particularly in recent years, earned him a promotion to Grade 18 in 2020, a significant upgrade from his initial position.

WAPDA took a keen interest in his development early on, preparing him for the 2016 Asian Junior Championship, an initiative that has borne fruit in his subsequent international achievements.

Sources further revealed that the Chief Executive of LESCO has now recommended Nadeem for another promotion, this time to Grade 19, in recognition of his continued excellence in athletics.

The final decision on this promotion will be taken by the WAPDA Sports Board, pending approval from the current Chairman, General (retd) Sajjad Ghani. A notification is expected to be issued soon.

WAPDA sources dismissed recent claims circulating on social media regarding the absence of javelins and inadequate training facilities for athletes like Nadeem, terming them as baseless propaganda.

They emphasised that many of the country's national heroes, including Arshad Nadeem, wrestler Inam Butt, weightlifter Noah Dastgir, and powerlifter Mah Noor, enjoy full support from WAPDA.

Additionally, it was noted that Nadeem managed to escape the downsizing efforts that targeted sports departments during the tenure of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Despite orders from various departments to shut down sports divisions, WAPDA ensured the continuation of its sports programs, allowing athletes like Nadeem to continue their training and representation of Pakistan on the world stage.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has clarified that there will be no tax imposed on the prize money given to national athlete Arshad Nadeem for his historic achievements, in response to rumors.

Arshad, the gold medalist for Pakistan in the Paris Olympics, set a new record by breaking a 118-year old Olympic record, bringing Pakistan its first gold in 40 years.

After his exceptional performance, the federal, Punjab, and Sindh governments declared different rewards for the Olympian. Yet, there were speculations that these rewards could be taxed.

Responding to these issues, FBR representative Bakhtiar confirmed to Samaa TV in a private discussion that there will be no tax on the prizes given to Arshad Nadeem. He stressed that Olympic prizes are not subjected to taxation under the Income Tax Ordinance.

Bakhtiar clarified that despite prize bonds, lottery winnings, quiz competition rewards, and sales promotion prizes by companies being taxable under Section 156 of the Income Tax Ordinance, this rule does not pertain to the awards earned by Arshad Nadeem.

The FBR spokesperson once again emphasized that Arshad Nadeem is a national hero and pledged to provide him with any necessary support as he continues to make the country proud.

Pakistani athlete Arshad Nadeem, who made history by winning the country's first-ever individual gold medal at the Paris Olympics, will be honoured with the prestigious Hilal-e-Imtiaz, as directed by President Asif Zardari.

In recognition of Nadeem's remarkable achievement, President Zardari will confer the civil award in a special ceremony, in accordance with Article 259(2) of the Constitution. The Presidency has officially communicated this directive to the Cabinet Division.

President Zardari lauded Arshad Nadeem for making the nation proud through his outstanding performance in athletics on the global stage. In a formal letter, the president highlighted Nadeem's outstanding success as a significant source of pride for Pakistan, emphasizing that his accomplishment has elevated the country's reputation in the field of sports.

The award, one of the highest civilian honours in Pakistan, will celebrate Arshad Nadeem's dedication, hard work, and the glory he has brought to the nation.

Besides Hilal-e-Imtiaz, following is how many cash rewards and gifts have been announced for the young athlete and by whom: 

- Hailing him as a "hero", Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced a reward of Rs100 million. She also announced a sports city in Arshad's of Mian Channu named after him.

- Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan announced a cash reward of Rs2 million. He said Nadeem would be formally invited to the Governor’s House upon his return to Pakistan.

- Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab said the Sindh government announced Rs50 million "for the national hero". He also said that a sports academy named after Arshad Nadeem would also be established in Karachi. 

- Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori announced Rs1 million for Arshad on the "historic victory". 

- The World Athletics Federation has announced $50,000 or Rs13.9 million for Arshad Nadeem as the prize money for winning the gold medal and creating a world record in the javelin throw category. 

- Singer Ali Zafar announced a reward of Rs1 million for Arshad Nadeem and urged the government to welcome him like a hero and establish a sports academy in his name. 

- Cricketer Ahmad Shahzad has also announced Rs1 million for the "Olympian hero" on behalf of his Ahmad Shahzad Foundation and Reportage Properties Group. He said he always believed in Arshad Nadeem's potential, and called him "our proud Champ ".

Furthermore, a foreign ice cream chain has also announced a cash reward of Rs2 million for the national hero, while a Karachi-based business tycoon has announced a luxurious apartment for him. 

Moreover, the National Assembly has passed a resolution recommending the government to honour Nadeem with the highest civil award. Senate Deputy Chairman Syedaal Khan Nasar plans to arrange an honorary dinner for Arshad once he returns to Pakistan. 

Sindh government spokesperson and Sukkur Mayor Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh has announced that a gold crown will be presented to gold medalist Arshad Nadeem upon his arrival in Sukkur. He further said an under-construction new sports stadium in Sukkur will be named "Arshad Nadeem Stadium" in recognition of the athlete’s extraordinary accomplishments. 

Also, a solar energy firm has promised a solar energy system for Arshad as a "tribute to his grand achievement for the nation". 

PTI senior leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that he has been active in politics for 40 years, but no cases were registered against him for the first 39 years of his career.

In an informal conversation with journalists at Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore, he, however, lamented that dozens of cases have been filed against him in the past year alone.

The veteran politician emphasized the importance of recognizing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan as a political reality, regardless of differing opinions. "Whether one likes it or not, the founder of PTI is a political reality," Qureshi said, stressing that political stability cannot be achieved without accepting this fact.

Qureshi also urged an end to the practice of labelling political opponents as traitors, a trend he says has persisted for 75 years. "We should stop calling each other traitors," he asserted, adding that certificates of treason have been distributed for 75 years in Pakistan's history.

- Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori announced Rs1 million for Arshad on the "historic victory". 

- The World Athletics Federation has announced $50,000 or Rs13.9 million for Arshad Nadeem as the prize money for winning the gold medal and creating a world record in the javelin throw category. 

- Singer Ali Zafar announced a reward of Rs1 million for Arshad Nadeem and urged the government to welcome him like a hero and establish a sports academy in his name.

- Cricketer Ahmad Shahzad has also announced Rs1 million for the "Olympian hero" on behalf of his Ahmad Shahzad Foundation and Reportage Properties Group. He said he always believed in Arshad Nadeem's potential, and called him "our proud Champ ".

Furthermore, a foreign ice cream chain has also announced a cash reward of Rs2 million for the national hero, while a Karachi-based business tycoon has announced a luxurious apartment for him. 

Moreover, the National Assembly has passed a resolution recommending the government to honour Nadeem with the highest civil award. Senate Deputy Chairman Syedaal Khan Nasar plans to arrange an honorary dinner for Arshad once he returns to Pakistan. 

Sindh government spokesperson and Sukkur Mayor Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh has announced that a gold crown will be presented to gold medalist Arshad Nadeem upon his arrival in Sukkur. He further said an under-construction new sports stadium in Sukkur will be named "Arshad Nadeem Stadium" in recognition of the athlete’s extraordinary accomplishments. 

Also, a solar energy firm has promised a solar energy system for Arshad as a "tribute to his grand achievement for the nation".

He urged the government to provide better facilities for athletes, emphasizing that with the right support, Pakistan could produce more world-class sportsmen and women.

He recounted the challenges he faced during his preparation, particularly the training sessions in the heat of Pakistan. “Behind this success is our hard work,” Arshad noted, sharing that even after his impressive performance in the second round of the Olympic javelin throw event, he did not allow himself to relax. 

"When I made the throw in the second round, I was hopeful the gold medal will be ours. Despite a good throw, I did not relax," he recalled. Arshad’s message to aspiring athletes was clear: “Whenever you enter the field, don’t think of yourself as weak.”

He reminded everyone that Olympics was the biggest sporting event in the world, adding that as soon as goes back to Pakistan, he will tell everyone to promote sports. "The prime minister called and congratulated me on the gold medal," he added.

On the other hand, celebrations continue at the residence of Olympian Arshad Nadeem. His former coach, Rasheed Ahmed Saqi, says Mian Channu is a very fertile area. Arshad will reach Pakistan via Dubai at 1pm (August 11). The provincial sports minister and officials of the Pakistan Sports Board will welcome Arshad Nadeem at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore.

Sources claimed Arshad Nadeem will be taking a round of Lahore city on the day after August 11 on a double-decker bus after being received from Lahore airport. 

The Inter-Provincial Coordination Ministry has denied reports claiming that Arshad Nadeem did not receive financial support during his training.

In a statement accompanied by statistics, the ministry asserted that throughout Arshad Nadeem's career, the government has provided him with full financial and technical support.

"Pakistan Sports Board and the Athletics Federation made all the arrangements for his training, and the administration supported the athlete both within and outside the country," the statement reads.

The ministry further claimed that in the last three years alone, Arshad Nadeem was awarded cash prizes totaling Rs 22 million.

Additionally, the statement mentioned that Rs690 million has been allocated to the Athletics Federation for the financial year 2023-24.

Babar Azam recorded a video message expressing his support for Arshad, who qualified for the javelin throw final with an impressive throw of 86.59 meters in his first attempt during the qualification round on Tuesday.

The event organizers have announced the groupings, placing Nadeem and India’s Neeraj Chopra in Group B.

The javelin throw competitions will take place tomorrow afternoon. In Group B, alongside Nadeem and Chopra, are World No. 5 Edis Matusevičius and World No. 6 Anderson Peters. Also competing in this group is Germany’s Max Dehning, who has thrown over 90 meters in this series.

The action in Group B will commence at 2:50 PM Pakistan time, with Arshad Nadeem scheduled to throw fifth. This year, the qualification standard for the medal round has been raised, requiring athletes to achieve a minimum throw of 84 meters to secure their place.

A total of 12 athletes will qualify for the final round. If fewer than 12 athletes meet the 84-meter mark, those with the best throws will advance. In total, 32 athletes will compete in the javelin throw events, divided into two groups.

Javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Sports Board and the Athletics Federation for extending support to him on Wednesday.

Expressing his thoughts, Nadeem said: “I am coming back in complete rhythm. I will make all-out efforts, and then definitely I will clinch the gold medal in the Olympics.”

He talked about his training in South Africa. “I had a great training experience in South Africa. There was cold weather in South Africa, unlike here in Pakistan, where I have to get my training done even in scorching heat.”

“However, hot or cold weather does not matter to the athlete who knows to do the hard work,” said Nadeem.
