Heinrich Klaasen’s 97-ball 86 powered South Africa to a fighting total 239-9 against Pakistan in the first ODI in Paarl on Tuesday.
Opting to bat first, the Proteas were off to a fiery start, when Tony de Zorzi and Ryan Rickelton stitched a 70-run partnership. The wicket of Zorzi started a slide and it went downhill thereafter.
South Africa were four for 88, but skipper Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen stitched a 107-ball 73-run partnership to add impetus to the South Africa’s innings.
For Pakistan, Salman Agha (4-24) spearheaded the Pakistan’s bowling lineup.
Abrar Ahmed (2-32) took two wickets.
Shaheen Shah Afridi (1-46) and (1-34) took a scalp each.
Kamran Ghulam and Naseem Shah remained wicketless.
