The Punjab Assembly has passed a bill, which significantly revises the salaries of public representatives, following a majority vote in the assembly session.
The bill, presented by Punjab's Finance Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, brings considerable pay hikes for members of the Punjab Assembly (MPAs) and other provincial officials.
Under the newly approved bill, the salary of MPAs has been raised from Rs76,000 to Rs400,000. The salaries of provincial ministers will increase from Rs180,000 to Rs960,000, while the salary of the speaker of the Punjab Assembly will rise from Rs125,000 to Rs950,000.
The deputy speaker's salary will be increased from Rs120,000 to Rs775,000, and the parliamentary secretaries will now earn Rs451,000, up from Rs83,000. Additionally, the salaries of special assistants and advisers will be raised to Rs665,000, from Rs100,000.
The bill will take effect after approval from the Punjab governor. Before this, the salaries of the members of the Punjab Assembly were increased in 2019.
