In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, it has been uncovered that women's SIM cards are being misused for terrorist activities and extortion.
Imran Shahid, the head of the Anti-Terrorism Department, has revealed that some women are unaware that their SIM cards are being used in their names for these unlawful purposes.
The authorities are taking action in collaboration with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
During their investigation, numerous SIM cards were found registered under women's names, and they were used not only for terrorist activities but also for making extortion calls, often in conjunction with Afghan SIM cards.
DIG also pointed out that some women's SIM cards have been utilized for various government welfare programs, such as the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), without the women's knowledge or consent.
To address this issue, the Counterterrorism Department is working closely with the PTA and FIA. They have also reached out to the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to block the ID cards associated with these problematic SIM cards.
