Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has called India's decision not to travel to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy "unfortunate," emphasizing the crucial nature of India-Pakistan cricket encounters for fans worldwide.
Speaking during the ICC Champions Trophy Sydney tour, Watson highlighted how India-Pakistan matches create a special atmosphere in international cricket. "These encounters are always a special occasion, similar to the rivalry Australia shares with England," Watson said.
The former cricket star drew from his personal experience playing in Pakistan during the 2019 Pakistan Super League. "Having the opportunity to play in Pakistan was special for me. Witnessing the passion of Pakistani cricket fans and how they enjoy the game was remarkable," Watson reflected.
Watson emphasized the broader significance of Pakistan hosting an ICC event, noting that local fans have had limited opportunities to watch top-tier international cricket in person. "The Champions Trophy being hosted in Pakistan is significant for the entire nation. Fans will have the chance to see world-class stars in action, which will undoubtedly be a special moment for them," he stated.
The tournament represents Pakistan's first major ICC event hosting opportunity in recent years, marking a significant milestone for cricket in the region.
