Comedian Samay Raina, who was at the centre of the public indecency controversy last month, has further postponed his return to India and rescheduled his India tour.
On Thursday, Raina addressed the situation on his Instagram Stories, informing fans that his tour has been rescheduled, and assured ticket holders that refunds would be processed soon.
“Hello guys, I’m rescheduling my India tour. You all will get refunds shortly, see you soon,” he wrote.
This announcement follows the widespread backlash and legal actions surrounding the ‘India’s Got Latent’ controversy, which erupted after a viral clip from his YouTube show sparked public outrage.
What is the ‘India’s Got Latent’ controversy?
The controversy began when podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, a guest on Samay Raina’s show, made a highly explicit remark about parents.
The statement led to immense backlash, with multiple police complaints filed against Ranveer and those associated with the show in Mumbai and Guwahati. The Mumbai cyber cell and police launched separate investigations into the matter, while an Assam Police team visited Mumbai last month to coordinate with local authorities.
Ranveer Allahbadia’s response
Following the backlash, Ranveer Allahbadia issued an apology and revealed that he had been receiving violent threats.
“My remark about parents was insensitive and disrespectful. It is my moral responsibility to do better, and I am genuinely sorry,” he wrote on Instagram.
He further shared his fears of being physically attacked, claiming that, “People have invaded my mother’s clinic posing as patients. I’m watching death threats pour in from people saying they want to kill me and hurt my family.”
Despite the threats, Ranveer emphasized that he would face the legal process and cooperate with authorities, stating, “I’m feeling scared, but I’m not running away. I have full faith in the police and India’s judicial system.”
Where is Samay Raina?
Unlike Ranveer, Samay Raina has remained outside India and has so far evaded legal proceedings. While his exact location remains unclear, his delayed return and rescheduled tour suggest that he may be waiting for the controversy to settle before coming back.
Meanwhile, investigations into the case continue, and authorities have yet to announce whether Raina himself will face legal consequences.
