Prince William - the Prince of Wales - has been left upset following the crushing defeat of his favourite rugby team, Wales, to France in the opening match of the Six Nations Championship.
The match, held in Paris on Friday, saw Wales suffer a staggering 43-0 loss to the French side, leaving the future king disheartened by his team's performance.
An insider revealed to The Times that the Prince, who has long been a passionate supporter of Welsh rugby, was deeply disappointed by the result.
"William, who became patron of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) in 2016, was not expecting that his team would fail to score a single point in the game," the source said.
Despite a promising start in the first ten minutes, Warren Gatland's squad never found their footing, and the match was effectively decided well before the final whistle. Wales' loss in Paris has extended their winless streak since the 2023 World Cup, with the team still without a victory in 2024.
The Prince and Princess of Wales, known for their competitive spirit, have closely followed the Six Nations tournament, with Kate becoming patron of England's Rugby Football Union and Rugby Football League in 2022.
The two royals are expected to be closely involved as the tournament progresses, particularly when Wales face England on March 15 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
Ahead of the game, Prince William had shared a message of support for the Welsh team, wishing them the best of luck: "Wishing @welshrugbyunion the very best of luck tonight against France, and throughout @sixnationsrugby! Amdani!"
Though William's spirits were lifted by his football club Aston Villa’s 4-2 victory against Celtic in their Champions League match earlier this week, it was a tough blow for the Prince to see his rugby team fall short on the international stage.
