Various parts of Pakistan including Islamabad are experiencing a sharp shift in weather as rain and snow sweep across the country, bringing a notable drop in temperature.
In Islamabad, light drizzle accompanied by strong winds struck late last night, adding to the winter chill.
In Azad Kashmir's Leepa Valley, continuous snowfall has blanketed the region, with several areas, including Bathwar Gali and Sher Gali, receiving heavy snow. Reports indicate that over a foot of snow has accumulated in parts of the valley, cutting off road access to the capital.
The snowfall, which has significantly disrupted normal life, has left residents and authorities grappling with the situation.
Meanwhile, Sarai Alamgir, located in the northeastern part of Punjab, witnessed its first winter rain, contributing to a significant decrease in temperature. The changing weather conditions, while adding to the winter charm, have also led to travel disruptions in the affected areas, raising concerns among commuters and local authorities.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had earlier forecasted mainly cold and dry weather for most plain areas of the country over the next 24 hours, with hilly regions expected to experience very cold conditions during the morning and night.
However, forecasts suggest that isolated regions in northeast Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and adjacent hilly areas could see thunderstorms, light snowfall, and rain in the coming hours.
In Abbottabad, intermittent snowfall has been reported in the regions of Nathia Gali, Ayubiya, and Thandiani since last night. The intensity of the cold has escalated, and local authorities have warned of potential hazards caused by the freezing temperatures.
Snowfall in these areas has disrupted the power supply to several villages, further complicating the situation. In addition, Murree Road has been closed due to heavy snowfall, stranding travelers and leading to delays.
As the winter season intensifies, locals and authorities are advised to take necessary precautions and stay updated on weather developments.
