The Sindh government has announced a strict deadline for vehicle owners across the province to replace their old number plates with the newly introduced Ajrak-themed number plates featuring advanced security features.
Starting from April 3, 2025, vehicles without the new number plates will face severe penalties, including vehicle seizure and fines.
According to the Excise and Taxation Department, the move aims to enhance road security and prevent vehicle-related crimes through the introduction of modern, tamper-proof number plates. The directive applies to all cities within Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur.

- Private vehicle plates: White background
- Commercial vehicle plates: Yellow background
- Motorcycle & rickshaw plates: Special design with Ajrak theme
Fee structure:
- Private and commercial vehicles: Rs2,450
- Motorcycles and rickshaws: Rs1,850
- Smart registration card: Rs1,600
With the deadline approaching, there has been a noticeable rush at Motor Vehicle Registration Centers as vehicle owners hurry to comply with the new regulations. An official from the Excise Department stated: “Failure to install the new Ajrak number plates within the stipulated time will result in legal action. Vehicles with outdated plates will be impounded, and owners will face fines.”
