The lawyers’ bodies are divided on the date of strike for upcoming elections date as the All Pakistan Lawyers Convention organized by SCBA passed a resolution demanding the holding of general elections within 90 days.
Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) All Pak Lawyers Convention (Professional Lawyers Group) has announced to observe a countrywide strike on September 14.
On the other hand, PBC's All Pak Lawyers Representatives Conference (Independent Lawyers Group) already called for a lawyers strike on September 9.
The development came after the All Pakistan Lawyers Convention organized by SCBA passed a resolution and demanded the holding of general elections within 90 days.
Interestingly, there is no announcement for the start of the ‘lawyers’ movement’.
Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) All Pak Lawyers Convention (Professional Lawyers Group) issued a statement and said that in continuation of resolutions passed by All Pakistan Lawyers Convention held Thursday at Islamabad.
“Besides the other resolutions passed by All Pakistan Lawyers Convention to Protect, Defend and Preserve, the Constitution, Rule of law and Human Rights, held today under the auspices of Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan(SCBAP), the convention also passed another important resolution, stated as follows;
"That all the Bar Associations across the Country, on coming Thursday (Sept 14) shall observe countrywide strike and will demonstrate peaceful protests in their respective Bar Associations in the shape of rallies and marches to defend and uphold the constitution, rule of law, and human rights,” the statement said.
