The Kuwait Civil Service Commission has declared a three-day public holiday in celebration of Shab-e-Mairaj, the Night of Ascension, from Thursday, January 30, to Saturday, February 1, 2025.
The holiday commemorates the miraculous journey and ascension of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and is significant for the nation’s Muslim population.
Although Shab-e-Mairaj falls on January 27, the Kuwaiti government has opted to observe the holiday on Thursday, providing citizens with an extended weekend. This decision aligns with the country’s efforts to balance religious observances and practical needs.
During the holiday period, all government offices and public institutions will be closed, and work is expected to resume on Sunday, February 2. However, essential service agencies will adjust their schedules to ensure that critical public services remain operational without disruption.
The announcement follows a series of new regulations for government offices, including the introduction of evening shifts starting in January 2025.
The Civil Service Commission emphasized that the new system, which took effect on January 5, has been fully clarified and provides guidelines for implementing evening working hours in select government departments.
