Karachi is set to endure a prolonged cold spell as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted further drops in temperature over the next few days.
The city, which is already grappling with chilly conditions, will see nighttime temperatures dip to between 10°C and 12°C, with the cold wave expected to persist until January 19.
Currently, Karachi’s temperature stands at 12°C, with a daytime high of approximately 26°C. Humidity levels are at 70%, and winds from the northeast are blowing at a speed of 11 km/h.
The PMD has warned residents to brace for even cooler weather, particularly with strong winds set to intensify the chill on January 17, making the conditions feel colder.
While Karachi remains the focal point of the cold front, the rest of the country is also facing an extended period of cold and dry weather.
Dense fog is anticipated to envelop Punjab and Upper Sindh during the early mornings and nights, reducing visibility and posing potential hazards for travelers.
Isolated rainfall and snowfall are expected in northwestern Balochistan, with other regions such as Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the mountainous areas of Gilgit-Baltistan also bracing for intensified cold conditions.
Citizens, especially those in fog-prone areas and high-altitude regions, have been urged to take necessary precautions. The PMD advises people to dress warmly, avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure, and exercise caution while traveling during the foggy conditions that are likely to persist through the week.
