A horrific traffic accident on the Indus Highway at Ambiri Kallah Chowk has claimed the lives of at least 12 individuals and left 25 others injured.
The incident occurred when a 22-wheeler trailer, reportedly suffering from brake failure, collided with a passenger flying coach and several other vehicles.
Rescue operations are still ongoing, with authorities working to extricate more bodies from the wreckage.
According to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Karak, the crash occurred late in the afternoon and immediately resulted in multiple fatalities. The oil tanker trailer, which was unable to halt due to the malfunctioning brakes, overturned onto the passenger coach, crushing it under its weight.
The force of the collision caused a chain reaction, affecting several other vehicles on the highway.
“The trailer's failure to stop led to a catastrophic chain of events. The coach was completely crushed under the trailer, causing immense loss of life,” said DC Karak. The authorities have issued a red alert across local hospitals, preparing for a surge of injured victims, some in critical condition.
Rescue teams have managed to pull several survivors from the wreckage, with the injured being transported to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Karak. Medical teams are on high alert as the situation continues to develop.
Emergency responders and local authorities are still working tirelessly to remove the bodies from the debris, and the death toll is expected to rise as more casualties are discovered.
