Pakistan has established itself as the world's third-largest oilseed exporter, marking a significant milestone in its agricultural sector with a 366% increase in exports. The country's annual oilseed exports have now exceeded $1 billion.
Domestic oilseed production has witnessed a substantial surge, reaching 1.119 million tons annually, representing a 455% increase in output. This growth has been attributed to improved agricultural practices and strategic support from government institutions.
Federal Minister for National Food Security, Rana Tanveer Hussain, highlighted how oilseed production has injected new momentum into Pakistan's economy.
The expansion in oilseed exports is contributing to economic stability and helping reduce import dependencies. Industry experts anticipate further growth in quality production as improvements in processing technologies continue to be implemented.
"The government remains committed to enhancing oilseed production," stated ministry officials, emphasizing ongoing efforts to strengthen the agricultural sector.
The development marks a significant shift in Pakistan's agricultural export profile, with oilseeds emerging as a key contributor to the country's foreign exchange earnings. Stakeholders are focusing on sustainable growth strategies to maintain this positive trajectory in the international market.
Experts note that continued technological advancement in processing capabilities will be crucial for maintaining product quality and meeting international standards. This development aligns with broader efforts to modernize Pakistan's agricultural sector and enhance its global competitiveness.
