A leaked image of the iPhone 17 Pro has surfaced, offering a glimpse of its front design, which marks the first significant update since the iPhone 14 Pro.
While rumours swirl around Apple’s plans for its camera system, with discussions of a horizontal island or retaining the stovetop design, the leaked image focuses on the phone's front-facing features.
The standout change is the smaller Dynamic Island, which will replace the current larger cutout. This new design will be made possible by the use of metalens technology, an optical innovation that uses nanostructured materials to manipulate light. Unlike traditional lenses, metalens are flatter and lighter, allowing Apple to make the Dynamic Island narrower without compromising functionality.
In addition to the updated island, the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to feature thinner bezels, pushing the device closer to an all-glass front design, though that may not happen immediately. Interestingly, only the iPhone 17 Pro Max might feature the metalens, leaving the rest of the lineup with the current Dynamic Island design.
As Apple prepares for the launch, it seems poised to refresh its flagship model’s design significantly. However, conflicting reports still surround the potential camera array updates. Whether these leaks come to fruition remains to be seen, but the iPhone 17 Pro is already shaping up to be a major step forward for Apple's design evolution.
