Karachi is experiencing a noticeable dip in temperatures as the intensity of winter sharpens, with cold winds sweeping across the city in recent days.
The ongoing cold spell, fueled by strong gusts of wind, has led to a further drop in temperature, and meteorologists predict the chill will persist in the coming days.
According to Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz, the cold winds from northern regions, particularly Quetta, are expected to intensify as they make their way to Karachi.
He highlighted that temperatures could fall even more during the first week of January, with nighttime temperatures potentially dipping between 8 to 11 degrees Celsius.
Daytime temperatures, however, are forecasted to reach a maximum of 23 to 25 degrees Celsius.
Reports suggest that neighbouring districts such as Thar and Badin are also experiencing a sharp drop in temperatures. In Badin, the mercury has already fallen to a chilly 9 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a statement indicating that this cold wave will intensify further by the second week of January.
Sardar Sarfraz noted that although light rain is expected in some parts of Balochistan from January 3 to 5, snowfall and rainfall across the country this year are expected to be significantly less than in previous winters.
Karachi has already seen temperatures dip to single digits on several occasions, while several areas in Balochistan have witnessed temperatures plunging below freezing.
The PMD has forecasted cold and dry conditions across most parts of the country, with extremely cold weather anticipated in mountainous regions, especially during the early mornings and nights.
In addition, light rain and snowfall are expected in the Kashmir region and its adjacent mountainous areas, particularly in the evening and at night.
Fog may also persist in parts of Punjab and Sindh during the morning and night hours. Recent temperature reports show Skardu recording 11°C, Gilgit 7°C, and Quetta and Ziarat reaching 6°C.
