The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued 177 telecom licenses during the fiscal year 2023-24.
Officials confirmed that the license issuance system has been fully digitised, enabling applicants from remote areas to access services more efficiently.
According to PTA documents, the licenses issued in the past year include:
- 60 fixed local loop licenses
- 36 class value-added services licenses
- 31 wireless HF and VHF licenses
- 49 amateur licenses
- 3 long distance and international licenses
- 6 aeronautical mobile station licenses
- 2 LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) licenses.
This brings the total number of all types of telecom licenses issued by PTA to date to 2,140.
In the domain of submarine cables, PTA has issued seven licenses thus far, with four more currently under consideration. The advancements in the online licensing system are expected to particularly benefit entrepreneurs and businesses in remote regions, promoting inclusivity in the telecom sector.
PTA officials highlighted that the new digital system enhances transparency and accessibility, making it easier for individuals and organizations to apply for and obtain licenses.
