Arne Slot has expressed that he is not surprised by Liverpool's stunning start to the 2024-2025 season, with the Reds currently sitting at the top of both the Premier League and the Champions League standings.
Despite stepping into the large shoes of former manager Jurgen Klopp, Slot has guided the team to an impressive record of 14 wins and one draw from their opening 16 matches across all competitions.
As defending Premier League and Champions League title holders, Slot's transition to the helm has been seamless, thanks in part to the solid foundations laid by Klopp. Liverpool’s run has also seen them progress to the quarter-finals of the League Cup, further boosting their confidence and momentum.
"I wouldn’t say I’m shocked," Slot commented ahead of Liverpool's upcoming match against Aston Villa. "I knew the quality of this team, but consistency is key. From the moment I started working with them, I saw the energy they put in every day, and that is why we’ve been able to maintain such a high level."
Liverpool's recent performances have been nothing short of spectacular. Anfield's electrifying atmosphere helped propel the Reds to a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory against Brighton last weekend, putting them two points ahead of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League. The momentum carried over into midweek, with Slot's side dismantling Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen 4-0 in the Champions League, further boosting their claim as one of Europe's top teams.
Slot, however, remains focused on keeping his players grounded. While he is encouraged by the fans' enthusiasm, he emphasized the importance of staying consistent. "If the excitement from the fans helps create the atmosphere we had in the second half against Brighton or in the game against Leverkusen, then I hope they stay excited," he added.
Liverpool will be without Diogo Jota for their upcoming fixture, with the forward expected to return after the international break later this month.
As the Reds look to extend their lead at the top of both competitions, Slot will continue to rely on the dedication and energy of his squad as they aim for just their second Premier League title in 35 years.
