The National Highway Authority (NHA) has reported a historic rise in revenue, doubling its earnings to Rs110 billion this fiscal year, according to Federal Minister for Board of Investment, Communications, and Privatization, Abdul Aleem Khan.
During a visit to the NHA headquarters on Monday, Khan celebrated the organization’s financial milestone and expressed the government's goal to make NHA financially self-reliant.
Khan proposed bonuses and rewards for NHA employees, acknowledging the workforce's contribution, tied directly to the agency's revenue growth. “As NHA achieves these milestones, it’s essential that employees share in the success,” he said.
Khan praised the NHA for achieving a 100% MTAG target on the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway and noted that 99% of traffic on this route now uses the M-Tag system. This operational improvement aligns with the Authority’s commitment to reducing cash lane dependency and expanding digital toll systems.
The Minister also issued directives to enhance monitoring, advising daily revenue reports and installation of side-mounted cameras at toll plazas to track vehicles efficiently.
He added that updates on these operations should be regularly provided to the Secretary of Communications and NHA Chairman.
In a move aimed at maximizing M-Tag usage across all motorways, Khan announced an awareness campaign set to launch in the coming weeks, with plans to impose double toll fees on vehicles not equipped with M-Tags.
"This initiative is to ensure smoother, faster, and safer travel for all motorway users," he remarked.
