The government has intensified its crackdown on smuggling to stabilize the economy and ensure public welfare. Recent operations have resulted in significant seizures of essential commodities across the country.
In August alone, authorities confiscated 12.1 metric tons of sugar, 4,184.86 metric tons of fertilizer, 196.48 metric tons of flour, 30,875 cigarette sticks, 322 cloth bales, and 3.301 million liters of Iranian oil nationwide.
City-wise seizures include:
- Quetta: 8.75 metric tons of sugar, 123 cloth bales, and 0.009 million liters of Iranian oil
- Karachi: 1,316 cigarette sticks, 175 cloth bales, and 0.021 million liters of Iranian oil
- Multan: 14,305 cigarette sticks, 3 metric tons of sugar, 196.48 metric tons of flour, 4,184.85 metric tons of fertilizer, and 3.271 million liters of Iranian oil
- Peshawar: 0.35 metric tons of sugar and 24 cloth bales
Since September 1, 2023, total seizures amount to 9,078.75 metric tons of fertilizer, 1,860.77 metric tons of flour, 34,845.26 metric tons of sugar, 427,483 cigarette sticks, 151,234 cloth bales, and 11.056 million liters of Iranian oil.
Relevant agencies remain committed to continuing their anti-smuggling operations to help the country overcome economic challenges.
