As Pakistan celebrates its Independence Day, the Department of Meteorology has issued a comprehensive weather forecast indicating varied rainfall patterns across the country.
According to the forecast, Independence Day will witness light to heavy rain in several cities. In Islamabad, intermittent rain is expected throughout the day, with conditions likely to persist into the night. Various districts in south Punjab are predicted to experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms later in the evening.
In contrast, Balochistan is expected to remain hot and humid, while Sindh will see partly cloudy and hazy conditions in most districts. The northern and western regions, including Dir, Swat, Kohistan, and Shangla, as well as parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa such as Abbottabad and Peshawar, have a chance of rain throughout the day.
Rain is also forecasted for several areas in Punjab, including Murree, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Faisalabad. Additionally, the regions of Barkhan, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, and other parts of Balochistan are expected to experience rain during the evening.
In Sindh, scattered showers are possible in Tharparkar, Mithi, and surrounding areas.
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert for ongoing monsoon rains, which are expected to continue until August 18. The PDMA spokesperson urged citizens to take necessary precautions and avoid unnecessary travel in adverse weather conditions.
Lahore and south Punjab
Lahore and south Punjab regions are particularly advised to prepare for a spell of monsoon rains from August 14 evening to 18. During August 15 to 18, there is a possibility of rain with wind and thunder in most districts of south Punjab.
Rain is expected in Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Sahiwal and Gujrat divisions. The PDMA has advised local administrations to stay vigilant and manage potential weather-related disruptions.
DG Irfan Ali Kathia has emphasized the importance of following safety measures during the rainy spell, stating, "Citizens should take precautionary measures during this time and avoid unnecessary travel in bad weather conditions."
