The first-ever successful air ambulance transfer was carried out from Mianwali to Rawalpindi on the orders of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Halima Bibi, a paralysed woman who had fallen from a rooftop in Mianwali, was swiftly airlifted to Rawalpindi Hospital, ensuring she received timely medical intervention.
The transfer was conducted under the directive of Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who stressed the critical importance of adhering to the 'Golden Hour' – the crucial period following a traumatic injury. Dr Razoon Naseer supervised the operation, which was initiated following a referral from the district headquarters hospital in Mianwali.
“The successful transfer of Halima Bibi is a reflection of our dedication to providing timely and efficient medical care. The air ambulance service will be operational throughout Punjab, ensuring that no one is deprived of necessary treatment due to lack of resources,” Maryam stated.
According to a spokesperson for the rescue services, today’s operation in Mianwali was part of a trial phase for the air ambulance service. The formal inauguration of the service is anticipated to take place soon. This pioneering effort represents a significant step forward in the enhancement of emergency medical care in Pakistan.
Halima Bibi’s family expressed profound gratitude towards Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, praising her for what they described as a compassionate and life-saving intervention. “Maryam Nawaz Sharif has been an angel of mercy to us,” they said. “Her commitment to ensuring the best possible care for every woman in Punjab has been truly remarkable.”
Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari lauded the initiative, noting the swift implementation of what was once deemed impossible. “In less than four months, we have achieved what was considered unattainable for 76 years,” Bukhari remarked. “This is a clear demonstration of our commitment to fulfilling every promise and delivering results in record time.”
