Google Registry has launched a new domain extension '.meme' specifically designed for meme-related websites.
This domain extension is currently in its early access phase and requires an additional fee for registration.
However, it will be available to the public at a standard annual rate starting December 5.
Several meme websites have already registered domains using the '.meme' extension, primarily dedicated to cat memes.
Notable examples include grumpycat.meme, nyancat.meme, and keyboardcat.meme.
The meme explainer website knowyour.meme has also adopted the '.meme' domain address.
Meanwhile, some websites redirect users to their corresponding '.com' address or other platforms.
Google Registry has introduced a range of unique domain extensions, including '.dad,' '.boo,' and the recently launched '.ing'.
However, the '.meme' extension stands out as the most unconventional choice among their offerings.
This new extension is expected to simplify the process of finding reaction memes for online chats and conversations.
