The Pakistan cricket team faced a setback as reserve wicketkeeper Haseebullah has been ruled out of the upcoming Test series against West Indies due to a hand injury sustained during the South Africa tour.
The 21-year-old keeper sustained the injury when a ball struck his hand during practice, requiring stitches and forcing his withdrawal from the two-Test series against the West Indies.
Haseebullah, who was serving as backup to primary wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan in the 15-member Test squad, made his international debut earlier this year.
He played his first T20I as an opening batsman under Shaheen Shah Afridi's captaincy in Christchurch on January 21, 2024, followed by his ODI debut under Mohammad Rizwan's leadership in Bulawayo on November 24, 2024.
The left-handed batsman had previously been part of Pakistan's white-ball squads during their tours of Australia and Zimbabwe. However, for the South African tour, his role was specifically limited to the Test squad.
This injury creates a void in Pakistan's wicketkeeping reserves, with Mohammad Rizwan now being the sole specialist keeper in the squad for the West Indies series.
