Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar has expressed optimism about finalizing the agreement for the sale of Reko Diq shares to Saudi Arabia by December.
In an interview with Arab News, the interim PM conveyed Pakistan’s satisfaction with the Saudi offer for the Reko Diq project and emphasized the country’s support for this partnership.
Responding to questions regarding the sale of shares by Barrack, a partner company in the Reko Diq project, and the concerns about the potential loss of equal rights in the project, Kakar clarified that these negotiations are part of a commercial agreement.
He underlined that the government encourages Saudi Arabia’s participation in the project and assured that the news will be shared once the negotiations for this agreement are concluded.
During the interview, the Kakar addressed inquiries about any exceptions made by the cabinet to the PEPRA rules concerning the appointment of the negotiation committee and financial advisor to establish the December deadline for the Reko Diq shares' sale to the petroleum division.
He noted that the process for meeting this deadline is ongoing, and there is hope for the deal to be completed by December.
