Reports suggested Rashford sought a fresh start away from Old Trafford Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford edged closer to a loan move to Aston Villa, according to reports on Saturday.
The unsettled 27-year-old had been linked with AC Milan and Barcelona, while his representatives reportedly engaged in discussions with Tottenham and West Ham during the January transfer window.
Aston Villa stepped up their pursuit of Rashford after selling Colombian striker Jhon Duran to Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr on Friday.
The potential move to Villa Park presented Rashford with an opportunity to revive his career following a dramatic decline over the past two years.
Unai Emery’s side aimed to secure a revitalised Rashford as they sought to maintain their push for a top-four Premier League finish while also competing in the Champions League last 16. With the transfer deadline looming, speculation intensified regarding the England international’s departure from Old Trafford.
Rashford had expressed his desire to leave Manchester United after manager Ruben Amorim dropped him for the Manchester derby in December. "I am ready for a new challenge," Rashford had stated, acknowledging his dissatisfaction with his situation at the club. Since then, he had been absent from all 12 of United’s matches, with Amorim appearing to grow frustrated with the forward.
In a recent press conference, Amorim commented on Rashford’s exile, suggesting that drastic changes in the player’s attitude were necessary for reintegration.
The Portuguese manager had even remarked that he would rather include United’s 63-year-old goalkeeping coach in the squad than Rashford.
Meanwhile, United completed the signing of England Under-19 international Ayden Heaven from Arsenal in a deal that involved over £1 million in compensation to the north London club.
The 18-year-old centre-back committed to a contract until 2029, with an option for an additional year.
Heaven, who had entered the final six months of his scholarship terms at Arsenal, rejected the opportunity to sign a professional contract with his former club. Earlier this season, he made his senior debut in the League Cup against Preston.
Manchester United confirmed that Heaven would "immediately" integrate into Amorim’s squad. Expressing his excitement about the move, Heaven stated, "I am incredibly proud to join Manchester United. I am grateful to everyone who helped make this dream a reality."
He further added, "There is so much that I want to achieve in the game. I will be giving everything to continue my development and become the best player that I can be."
