The 5th Islamabad Marathon saw a spectacular display of athleticism and sportsmanship as Pakistan Army's Israr Khattak emerged victorious in the full marathon category.
Sohail Amir secured the title in the half marathon, while Atiq ur Rehman triumphed in the 5-kilometer race. In the women’s marathon, Norway's athlete claimed the top spot.
Over 3,000 participants, including international athletes, competed in various categories, drawing large crowds of enthusiastic spectators.
The marathon, held against the breathtaking backdrop of the Margalla Hills, offered four categories and showcased the talents of both local and international athletes. Mohammad Ikram clinched victory in the 10-kilometer race, while Sohail Amir and Atiq ur Rehman shone in their respective categories. Winners expressed their joy and determination to represent Pakistan on an international level if given opportunities.
Foreign athletes praised Islamabad’s scenic beauty and the well-organized event. “This is my first time running in Pakistan, and the weather and the atmosphere here are amazing,” said a participant from the UK. Another athlete from Norway called the marathon an excellent initiative for promoting fitness and camaraderie.
The event also saw participation from diplomats, including the UAE Ambassador Ibrahim Salim Al-Zaabi, who expressed his delight at seeing Islamabad’s vibrant atmosphere and commended the well-facilitated event.
The 5th Islamabad Marathon was a resounding success, showcasing the capital's charm and its athletes' potential. Winners are hopeful their performances will pave the way for international recognition.
