The Sindh Education Department has announced a province-wide holiday for all educational institutions on January 28 to mark Shab-e-Miraj, a significant Islamic observance. Public and private schools, colleges, and affiliated institutions will remain closed for the day, according to an official notification released Thursday.
The decision, applicable to all educational establishments under the department’s jurisdiction, aligns with the annual commemoration of Shab-e-Miraj, which honors the Prophet Muhammad’s night journey and ascension. The notification emphasized that the closure ensures students and staff can observe the occasion without academic obligations.
No formal statements regarding adjusted academic schedules or makeup days have been issued. However, the department reiterated that the holiday follows standard protocols for religious observances in the province.
Shab-e-Miraj, observed on the 27th day of the Islamic month of Rajab, holds spiritual significance for Muslims globally. While dates vary annually based on lunar cycles, Sindh’s authorities confirmed January 28 as the designated day for this year’s observance.
This marks the second religious holiday declared by the Sindh government in recent weeks, following the closure of institutions on December 18 for Eid Milad-un-Nabi. The province typically grants holidays for major Islamic events, reflecting its adherence to cultural and religious traditions.
The announcement has been circulated to district education officers and institutional heads to ensure compliance. Parents and students are advised to monitor official channels for further updates.
