The Lahore High Court has sought responses from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and other respondents regarding a petition challenging the denial of voting rights to overseas Pakistanis.
LHC Justice Shahid Karim presided over the hearing, which the International Lawyers Association filed.
During the proceedings, the petitioner's counsel highlighted that the Election Commission and other respondents had not submitted their replies.
Following this, the provincial apex court issued notices to the federal government and other parties, adjourning the hearing until the second week of February.
The petitioner emphasized that approximately 10 million overseas Pakistanis reside worldwide and argued that denying them the right to vote is a violation of fundamental rights.
The petition requested the court to direct the government to legislate and ensure voting rights for overseas Pakistanis.
