Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday issued a show-cause notice to senior party leader and National Assembly member Sher Afzal Marwat for allegedly violating party discipline.
The notice, which cites multiple instances of misconduct, accuses Marwat of making unwarranted public remarks against members of the party’s negotiation team, thereby undermining ongoing discussions and breaching the party’s code of conduct.
The document stresses Mr Marwat’s key roles within the PTI as a member of both the National Assembly and the party’s Core Committee.
It highlights his familiarity with the negotiation processes, asserting that he was expected to maintain confidentiality and uphold discipline in public communications.
Repeated Violations
The notice elaborates that Marwat’s repeated public statements not only contradicted PTI’s internal policy but also caused damage to the party’s image.
It underscores that the matter was brought to the attention of Imran Khan, who directed that disciplinary action be initiated.
Citing the party’s policy framework, the notice states, “Sher Afzal Marwat spoke without considering the consequences, causing harm to the party on multiple occasions. Such conduct is unacceptable and has necessitated this action.”
Seven-day deadline
Marwat has been granted a seven-day window to submit his response to the show-cause notice. The notice warns that failure to comply within the stipulated timeframe will result in further disciplinary action in accordance with PTI’s policy guidelines.
