Ten people were injured in a mass shooting in the New York City borough of Queens on New Year’s Day, according to a news briefing by the New York Police Department (NYPD) early on Thursday.
The incident occurred outside a private events club late on Wednesday evening, where three to four males opened fire toward a crowd. The victims, which included six females and four males, were expected to recover, police stated.
Users on social media expressed shock at the event and shared images showing the heavy police presence at the site.
The authorities quickly ruled out the possibility of a terrorist attack.
The shooting took place hours after two other violent incidents in the United States. In New Orleans, a truck ran into a crowd of New Year's revelers, resulting in 15 deaths, while in Las Vegas, a Tesla truck exploded outside a Trump hotel, killing one person and injuring seven.
Meanwhile, the US authorities worked to track down suspects involved in the New Orleans and Las Vegas incidents and were also investigating potential terrorism links.
