Pakistan's security forces successfully thwarted multiple infiltration attempts by terrorists and Afghan Taliban elements at the Pak-Afghan border, dealing a significant blow to hostile activities emanating from Afghan soil.
According to reliable sources, the incidents unfolded between the night of December 27 and the morning of December 28 in Kurram and North Waziristan districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
On the night of December 27 and 28, a group of 20 to 25 terrorists attempted to cross into Pakistan from two locations in Kurram and North Waziristan using Afghan Taliban-controlled border posts. Timely action by Pakistan's security forces thwarted the attempt, sources revealed.
Escalation and unprovoked firing
Undeterred, the group made a second infiltration attempt on the morning of December 28, again using Afghan Taliban posts as cover. When this attempt also failed, the terrorists as well as Afghan Taliban fighters launched unprovoked heavy weapons fire on Pakistani border posts.
In response, Pakistan's security forces retaliated with full force, effectively neutralizing the aggression. Sources reported heavy losses on the Afghan side, with more than 15 terrorists and Afghan Taliban fighters killed, and several others injured in counter-fire.
Afghan Taliban retreat
As a result of the retaliation and heavy arms attack, the Afghan Taliban abandoned six of their posts and retreated, leaving behind significant positions. Reports indicate that the number of casualties on the Afghan side may further increase.
Pakistani injuries
No fatalities were reported among Pakistani security personnel, while three soldiers sustained injuries during the exchange.
Sources highlighted that Pakistan has repeatedly urged the interim Afghan government to prevent terrorists from using Afghan soil for anti-Pakistan activities. However, the Afghan Taliban have allegedly continued to support these elements instead of suppressing them.
The terrorists operate freely within Afghanistan, carrying out terrorist actions against Pakistan, sources claimed.
Pakistan’s stance on aggression
Pakistan's security forces remain vigilant and fully capable of responding to any aggression. The military has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
