The Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) has granted a construction license for the Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit Five (C-5), which will become the largest nuclear power plant in the country.
The announcement revealed that the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) had submitted the application for the licence in April this year. The application included a preliminary safety assessment report and other essential documentation.
Following a thorough evaluation, the license was issued, ensuring compliance with both national and international regulatory standards.
According to PNRA, C-5 will boast a generation capacity of 1,200MW, significantly enhancing Pakistan’s nuclear energy output. The plant’s construction will mark a major milestone in the country’s efforts to meet growing energy demands through sustainable and reliable sources.
The Chashma Nuclear Power Plant already houses multiple operational units. With the addition of Unit Five, Pakistan’s nuclear energy infrastructure is poised for further advancement.
