Thirteen terrorists were gunned down in three separate operations by the security forces across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between December 25 and 26.
Operation in Janikhel, Bannu district
Acting on intelligence reports of terrorist presence, security forces launched an operation in Janikhel. The troops engaged the target area effectively, resulting in the killing of two terrorists.
Operation in North Waziristan
In a separate intelligence-based operation in North Waziristan district, security forces neutralised five terrorists during an intense exchange of fire, leaving eight others injured. Tragically, Major Muhammad Awais (31, a resident of Narowal district) embraced martyrdom during the operation.
Encounter in South Waziristan
In another engagement in South Waziristan district, security forces successfully eliminated six terrorists, while eight others sustained injuries.
Following these engagements, sanitization operations were underway to ensure the area is cleared of any remaining threats. The sacrifices of Pakistan's security personnel reaffirm the nation’s resolve to eradicate terrorism and maintain peace.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Zardari praised Pakistan's security forces for their successful operations in Bannu, North Waziristan, and South Waziristan, which resulted in the elimination of 13 terrorists.
The PM commended the bravery and dedication of the forces, acknowledging their pivotal role in maintaining peace and stability. He extended special recognition to Major Muhammad Awais, who embraced martyrdom during the North Waziristan operation.
“Major Awais fought gallantly and sacrificed his life for the nation’s peace. The entire nation salutes this brave son of the soil,” he stated, offering prayers for the martyr's highest ranks and expressing condolences to his family.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also paid heartfelt tribute to Major Awais, calling him an "immortal hero" whose sacrifice symbolizes patriotism and valour. “The nation will forever remember his supreme sacrifice for the country,” Naqvi said, reaffirming solidarity with the martyr’s family.
President Asif Ali Zardari also appreciated the courage of the security forces, lauding their efforts in neutralizing terrorists and paying tribute to Major Awais’s bravery and patriotism. He expressed his condolences to the martyr’s family, offering prayers for their strength and patience.
