Pakistan's first anti-smog tower was installed in Lahore, as announced by the environmental protection department.
The department collaborated with a private company to set up the tower, which had the capacity to clean 50,000 cubic metres of air per hour. Officials confirmed that if the tower's performance yielded successful results, more units would be installed across the city.
Located at Mehmood Booti, the tower was designed to purify 1.2 million cubic metres of air daily using electrostatic charges to attract pollutants. A private company based in Islamabad locally manufactured the tower.
Director General Environment, Imran Hamid Sheikh, said industries and dumping areas released significant amounts of chemical pollutants, prompting the need for the tower's installation. He added that the Punjab government incurred no expenses for the trial phase, which would continue for 15 days.
