The Punjab government has issued standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the use of Public Call Office (PCO) facilities for prisoners, ensuring controlled communication access to their families and legal counsel.
According to the newly implemented SOPs, prisoners will be allowed to use PCO services from Monday to Saturday, between 8am and 5pm.
Prisoners can contact immediate family members, spouses, and legal counsel only.
Each prisoner is permitted a maximum of 80 minutes of call time per week.
Special arrangements have been made for women, juvenile, and death-row inmates, with PCO booths set up within their respective barracks.
The initiative aims to provide prisoners with a structured means of maintaining essential communication while ensuring security protocols are upheld.
