The vegetable prices in Peshawar continued on Sunday to rise with no signs of slowing down as the sudden hike left citizens grappling with the burden of inflation as they struggled to meet their daily needs.
Tomatoes reached prices close to Rs300 per kilogram, while peas were sold for Rs250 per kilogram. Other vegetables also saw significant price hikes, with onions selling for Rs150 per kilogram and potatoes for Rs120 to Rs150 per kilogram.
According to vegetable sellers, the cold weather led to a decrease in supply, particularly affecting tomatoes, which have become increasingly difficult to source. "The supply of tomatoes is limited in this cold weather, which causes prices to rise," stated Haider Khan, president of the Vegetable Sellers Union.
The provincial government, despite ongoing actions against price gouging, failed to bring prices under control. District administration officials claimed that measures were in place to combat inflation, following the government's public agenda to take action against profiteers.
