Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday left for Cairo, Egypt to attend the 11th D-8 Summit - scheduled to run from December 18 to 20, 2024.
The summit's theme, "Investing in Youth, Supporting SMEs: Shaping Tomorrow's Economy," focuses on enhancing economic cooperation among the member countries.
The D-8, an economic cooperation organization, includes Pakistan, Egypt, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Nigeria, Indonesia, Iran, and Turkey. This gathering offers an opportunity for these nations to deepen economic ties, especially in the areas of agriculture, food security, and tourism.
According to a statement from the Foreign Office, Prime Minister Sharif will express Pakistan’s strong commitment to the D-8's ideals and highlight the importance of creating partnerships for mutual growth and prosperity.
Premier is also expected to underscore Pakistan's dedication to promoting cooperation in these sectors.
During the summit, Mr Sharif will participate in a special session addressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis and reconstruction challenges in Gaza and Lebanon, arising from the Israeli aggression in the Middle East.
PM Shehbaz will reiterate Pakistan’s position on the conflict, advocating for peace and stability in the region.
Additionally, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will represent Pakistan at the 21st meeting of the D-8 Council of Ministers on December 18. The Prime Minister is also anticipated to hold bilateral meetings with leaders of other member countries on the sidelines of the summit.
