Googly eyes have been spotted on several sculptures around the central Oregon city of Bend, creating a lighthearted and viral sensation.
The quirky additions have captured the attention of local residents and gained widespread media coverage, even being featured on a popular late-night talk show.
Photos shared by the city on social media show googly eyes attached to installations in the city's Roundabout Art Route. One image features a pair of googly eyes on a sculpture of two deer, while another shows them placed on a sphere. The identity of the person behind the unusual act remains unknown.
The city warned that removing the googly eyes from the artwork could incur costs, as care must be taken to avoid damage. "While the googly eyes placed on the various art pieces around town might give you a chuckle, it costs money to remove them with care to not damage the art," said the city in its posts.
The Facebook post quickly went viral, drawing hundreds of comments. Many users expressed their amusement, with one commenting, "My daughter and I went past the flaming chicken today and shared the biggest laugh," referring to the "Phoenix Rising" sculpture. Another user remarked, "We love the googly eyes. This town is getting to be so stuffy. Let’s have fun!"
