During the 1971 Pakistan-India War, Pakistani Army officers and soldiers stood steadfast on both the eastern and western fronts, defending the nation with remarkable courage. Among these heroes were Risaldar Muhammad Sher and Sowar Mir Alam of the renowned 20 Lancers unit, whose sacrifices continue to inspire.
Risaldar Muhammad Sher served as the tank troop leader for Alpha Squadron, stationed in the village of Kheera. On the night of December 5-6, 1971, Indian forces launched a tank regiment attack on Alpha Squadron. In the intense overnight battle, Risaldar Muhammad Sher heroically destroyed seven enemy tanks. On the morning of December 6, his tank was hit by enemy fire, and he embraced martyrdom.
Sowar Mir Alam, also from 20 Lancers, was posted as an MG gunner with the Rifle Troop in the village of Gugjal on the western front. On December 8, 1971, he volunteered for a fighting patrol to capture Harar Kalan. Despite heavy enemy shelling on December 10, he held his position with unwavering resolve. Tragically, he was struck by enemy fire and attained martyrdom while defending his post.
