Renowned Indian music composer AR Rahman has issued a stern warning to social media channels and YouTubers spreading defamatory content about his personal life following the announcement of his separation from wife Saira Banu.
The rumour mill spiraled after Rahman and Saira Banu’s separation coincided with bassist Mohini Dey's divorce from her husband, Mark. Netizens speculated connections between the two events, prompting Rahman’s legal team to intervene.
In a strongly worded notice shared on social media, Rahman’s team condemned the circulation of "calumny and defamatory write-ups" and accused some platforms of creating "fertile imaginary stories" about the couple’s private lives.
The notice stated, "It is noticed some of the social media platforms and several YouTubers have started a series of calumny and defamatory write-ups. The interviews by some busybodies on the failure of their marriage life have also surfaced."
Rahman’s legal team demanded the immediate removal of objectionable content within a stipulated time. "My client informs the hatemongers and sharers of abusive content to remove the objectionable content within the next one hour and maximum time duration of 24 hours," the notice warned.
Rahman also addressed the issue directly on his social media, posting a screenshot of the legal notice with the caption, "Notice to all slanderers from ARR's Legal Team."
Earlier, the couple shared the news of their divorce through a joint statement, urging fans to respect their privacy during this sensitive time.
