Barcelona will now host the final race of the 2024 MotoGP season, replacing Valencia, which was severely affected by recent floods.
The change, announced by Dorna Sports on Tuesday, comes after riders and organizers expressed their desire to relocate the season-ending event out of respect for the victims of Spain’s worst natural disaster in recent history.
The 2024 MotoGP finale will take place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya from November 15-17, with the World Championship title on the line. Spanish rider Jorge Martin holds a 24-point lead over Italy's Francesco Bagnaia, the two-time defending champion, setting up a thrilling conclusion to the season.
Dorna confirmed the decision to move the race to Barcelona, reaffirming their solidarity with the Valencia region, which has been devastated by the floods. "MotoGP can now confirm the 2024 curtain closer will be held in Barcelona," Dorna said in a statement, noting that the race will occur on the originally scheduled dates.
This will be the second time in 2024 that the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has hosted a MotoGP race, after Bagnaia triumphed in the Catalunya Grand Prix there in May, edging out Martin in a thrilling battle.
With the title race still wide open, fans can expect an exciting showdown as the championship comes to a dramatic end in Barcelona next weekend.
