The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved $320 million for road rehabilitation in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, with support from the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). This funding aims to restore safe and uninterrupted connectivity in rural areas affected by recent floods.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rural Roads Development Project will upgrade approximately 900 kilometers of flood-damaged rural roads across the province. The initiative incorporates climate-resilient designs and effective measures to construct durable roadways.
Beyond reconstruction, the project will provide technical and financial assistance to the government for developing long-term sustainable solutions. This approach is expected to enhance the overall resilience of the province's road network.
The rehabilitation effort is projected to reduce transportation costs and save time for millions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa residents, potentially opening up new economic opportunities. Additionally, the project includes plans to identify and sustainably reconstruct roads affected by landslides throughout the province.
SIFC's collaboration in facilitating sustainable infrastructure development is considered a crucial component of Pakistan's social and economic progress.
