The Government of Punjab recently marked the conclusion of its extensive canal cleaning campaign with an award ceremony organized by the Government of Punjab Initiatives (GPI) and Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). The event recognized officials who demonstrated exceptional performance during the operation.
Launched in January 2024, the initiative covered 22,000 miles of irrigation networks across Punjab, effectively irrigating between 1.3 to 1.4 million acres of land. GPI and LUMS employed satellite technology and drones to oversee the cleaning process, working in close collaboration with the Irrigation Department to ensure positive outcomes.
The Punjab Irrigation Minister attended the ceremony as the chief guest, accompanied by the Secretary of Irrigation and Chief Engineers and Executive Engineers from across the province. In his address, the Minister emphasized the significance of canal maintenance and praised the joint efforts of the Irrigation Department and LUMS.
The event concluded with the distribution of awards to officials who had shown outstanding performance throughout the cleaning drive. This recognition aimed to encourage continued dedication to maintain Punjab's vital irrigation infrastructure.
