Senior officials from Pakistan and Turkmenistan have underscored the need to accelerate the implementation of the TAPI Gas Pipeline project, which is being overseen by the SFIC. The project aims to enhance regional energy security and economic integration.
In this regard, Federal Minister for Petroleum Dr Musadik Malik held a meeting with Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, who was on a two-day visit to Pakistan. The discussions centred on the progress and future trajectory of the TAPI Gas Pipeline project.
The TAPI gas pipeline, a major infrastructure initiative, will stretch over 1,814 kilometres. It will start from Turkmenistan, traverse Afghanistan, and extend into Pakistan before reaching India.
Specifically, the pipeline will cover 214 kilometres from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan, 774 kilometres from Afghanistan to Pakistan, and 826 kilometres from Pakistan to the India-Pakistan border.
With a designed capacity of 33 billion cubic meters of gas, the pipeline will operate at a working pressure of 10,000 kilopascals. This project is an expression of the commitment to ‘Safe Pakistan, Strong Pakistan’ through reduced energy cost, promotion of industrial development, employment and economic growth.

Dr. Musadik Malik emphasized the significant progress made on the TAPI gas pipeline project through mutual cooperation. "Significant progress has been made on the TAPI gas pipeline project through mutual cooperation, with the aim of promoting economic integration and energy security," he stated.
Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov expressed the intention to forge a collaborative roadmap with Pakistan, stating, "We will develop a roadmap for collaboration with Pakistan."
Mohammad Mirat Amanov, CEO of TAPI Pipeline Company, also highlighted the project's advancement, attributing it to the special interest of Pakistan's Ministry of Petroleum and the SFIC.
"The TAPI gas pipeline project has made significant progress due to the special interest of Pakistan's Ministry of Petroleum and the SFIC, and it is moving in the right direction," Amanov remarked.
The TAPI project symbolizes a sustainable partnership between Pakistan and Turkmenistan, reflecting a shared vision for regional stability and prosperity by tackling energy shortages. SFIC’s cooperation is strategically important for enhancing regional connectivity, and its ongoing efforts are contributing to the creation of a favourable environment for a secure and robust Pakistan.
