On the completion of 12 years since the Gyari tragedy, the nation paid rich tributes to the martyrs. On April 17, 2012, an avalanche on the Siachen Glacier fell on the NLI battalion headquarters, killing 129 soldiers.
The NLI battalion headquarters was completely destroyed due to the huge avalanche, none of the trapped jawans could be rescued alive.
The foreign rescue teams had declared this mission impossible, but the Pakistan Army, especially the Corps of Engineers, successfully completed the rescue operation.
The memorial of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the motherland has been established on the high peak of Siachen.
