In a recent development, an Anti-Terrorism Court in Lahore on Monday granted post-arrest bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sanam Javed bail.
The arrest was in connection with the burning of the Muslim League-N (PML-N) house in Model Town. The decision, pronounced by Judge Arshad Javed Chadhar, comes after a bail application was submitted by the defense.
Sanam Javed's lawyer argued that the accused had been implicated in the case after a lapse of six months, emphasizing the need for bail. On the other hand, Deputy Prosecutor Abdul Jabbar Dogar opposed the bail, asserting that Sanam Javed had allegedly incited people to commit arson during the incident.
The court, considering the arguments, ordered the release of Sanam Javed on bail against surety bonds of Rs2 lacs.
However, sources indicate that immediate release may face obstacles as authorities are reportedly apprehending the PTI leader in another case registered at the Shadman police station in Lahore.
Despite the legal proceedings, it's worth noting that on January 26, the Supreme Court intervened in a separate matter related to Sanam Javed. The apex court overturned the decision to reject her nomination papers, allowing her to contest elections from Lahore. Furthermore, the Election Commission has been directed to allocate election symbols for her candidacy.
