As Saturday marks the last day for scrutiny of nomination papers filed by various potential candidates for the upcoming general elections, the returning officers are gradually announcing whether they have accepted or rejected the several documents.
It would be decided today who would land in the election arena and who would have to go home.
The final list of candidates cleared for general elections would be displayed after 5pm.
In Islamabad, the nomination papers of candidates for three seats of the National Assembly are being scrutinised. The documents of PML-N leader Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, former deputy mayor Zeeshan Naqvi and other candidates are being scrutinised.
The authorities in the capital have completed the scrutiny of nomination papers of 160 candidates in four days, while 48 more will be scrutinised on the last day today.

Among those set to appear before the returning officer to complete the process of scrutinising their nomination papers is also transgender activist Nayab Ali.
In Karachi, 815 nomination papers have been received for 22 constituencies of the National Assembly, while 2,030 nomination papers have been submitted for 47 seats in the Sindh Assembly.
PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif is vying for the NA-242 seat from Karachi, while PPP’s Masood Khan Mandokhel has raised objections against his nomination. The RO has given Shehbaz till today to file his reply to the objection.

While PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz’s nomination papers for six seats of the National and provincial assemblies from Lahore and Sargodha have been accepted, the decision on the rest of the candidates from Lahore will be announced later in the day.
The reserved verdicts regarding the nomination papers of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari from NA-127 and Imran Khan from NA-122 will also be announced today.
