The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has filed a contempt of court petition in the Supreme Court on the issue of non-implementation of the orders regarding the provision of level playing field to the party.
The petition maintains that the Supreme Court should ensure the implementation of its orders of December 22 as well as issue directions against the arrest and harassment of PTI candidates.
The petition states that the PTI candidates were being prevented from submitting their nomination papers for the upcoming general elections despite court orders.
Several letters were written to the provincial election commissioner but despite that, no action was taken, it added further. Strict action should be taken against those who are violating the court order, the petition mentions.

It also asks for permission for PTI candidates to hold rallies and meetings.
The petition makes all four chief secretaries and police chiefs parties, as well as the interior secretary, and the election commission secretary.
The PTI has also requested an urgent hearing on the contempt petition.
On December 22, the Supreme Court had directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hear the PTI’s complaints against the provision of level playing field, and redress their grievances.
The court had asked the commission to listen to all the complaints and resolve them. The court asked what the commission did about the complaints it received. The election commission and the attorney general for Pakistan assured the court of cooperation.
