The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a loan of $180 million for Pakistan. The amount will be spent on water supply and solid waste management services in Punjab.
According to the Asian Development Bank, the $180 million project will benefit 1.5 million people in Punjab. It also includes expanding and modernising the Rawalpindi Urban Water Supply.
Apart from this, the solid waste management system in Bahawalpur will also be improved under the project.
The implementation of the project will improve municipal services in both Bahawalpur and Rawalpindi. A water treatment plant will be constructed in Rawalpindi with a capacity of 54 million litres per day.

Moreover, 82,000 households will get clean water through pipelines.
Meanwhile, a delegation of technical experts of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reached Islamabad on a mission to expand the tax net in Pakistan. As per officials in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), during the weeklong consultations, the IMF delegation will provide assistance on increasing tax efficiency.
The Fund has insisted on raising the tax-to-GDP ratio to 15%. The IMF has also demanded to bring the rich into the tax net.
The consultations are also likely to feature a discussion on the mechanism to bring retailers into the tax net. The global lender will provide policy guidelines for the proposed scheme.
